Eastern Turkey Tour comprises an exciting mixture of incredibly varied and spectacular scenery, magnificent historical sites and a chance to experience the traditional ways of life of the local people. First up is the Black Sea city of Trabzon, ancient Trebizond, with a wonderful late Byzantine and Medieval Ottoman heritage. Then it’s on through the mountains and steppes of Anatolia to distant Kars and the ancient ghost town of Ani, right on the border with Armenia. From here it’s south, past legendary Mt Ararat, to Lake Van, the ancient land of Urartu, before heading back west, across the mighty Tigris and Euphrates rivers, to biblical Antioch, a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean.
